“Don’t stifle your creative urges, Jenn! You should start a band.”
Someone just wrote this sentence in an email to me and the extent to which I am frustrated by it is probably a bit dramatic. But, real talk, I find that offensive. I really hate when people approach music writing as a sort of back-up plan, because you did not want to or could not become a musician. Could not be further from the truth. If you’re the kind of person who’s dreamt of being a full-time professional writer or journalist since the first grade, statements like this are sooo annoying.
